Nine people were killed and three others injured in landslides in Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, police said.
According to the news agency PTI, Heavy boulders fell on a tempo traveler carrying 11 people, killing nine and injuring two due to landslides that occurred near Batseri on Sangla-Chitkul road.
Monsoon has been a disaster in parts of Himachal Pradesh, with flash floods hitting Dharmashala earlier this month, overflowing Manjhi river in Dharamshala wiping away nearly 10 shops in the area.
The district administration has also instructed tourists to postpone their visit to Dharamsala citing a calamity due to heavy rain.
The Prime Minister of India has also expressed his condolences over the death of the people in the landslides and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the decrease and Rs 50,000 to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
President of India, Ram Nath Kovind also expressed his condolence to the deceased and injured victims of the landslides in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur District.
“Deeply saddened by the news of the death of many people in the landslide accident in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wish the injured a speedy recovery”, he tweeted in Hindi.
Meanwhile, several roads are also blocked due to the landslides in certain parts of Himachal Pradesh.
