Indian Idol has been receiving backlashes for quite a while after the tribute to Kishore Kumar was aired, featuring Amit Kumar.
The harsh reality of ‘Reality Shows’ become public when Amit Kumar, son of legendary singer Kishore Kumar, publically criticized the makers of the show along with the contestants and judges for ‘ruining’ the songs sung by Kishore Kumar.
Later many Bollywood veterans including Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, etc backed Amit Kumar’s statement and criticized the show.
In a recent interview with ETimes, Ashish Kulkarni, one of the contestants of the show, defended the show saying “The show is totally unscripted, if you sing well, you get praised, if you sing bad, it will be discussed”
He spoke to ETimes about staying away from his family during the pandemics and also about his bonding with his co-contestant, Pawandeep.
“It has been an overwhelming experience. I am a part of something so much bigger than I had ever imagined. It is a very big deal for me and my family. We contestants have settled to a point that all of us have become such great friends that we spend all our time together, we practice and work on our music together and it’s too much fun. Of course, the popularity and fame come with it but primarily it is the celebration of music for all of us,” says Ashish.
Meanwhile, BollywoodLife conducted a survey where fans of the show want Shanmukha Priya and Mohammed Danish to be removed from the show
Shanmukha Priya has been the most criticized contestant of the show with the viewers quoting her singing style as “Screaming” but as for the common audience, her singing style includes ‘Yodeling’, a form of singing orchestrated by rapid change of pitch between high and low.
Many praised Shanmukha Priya’s singing style but according to Manoj Muntashir’s interview with Etimes, “She must pay to heed to the feedback” made by the public.
Despite all the criticisms, the fans are awaiting the Grand Finale of the popular singing show, Indian Idol season 12.
