Nvidia, the American multinational tech company plans to drop support for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 from October. The drivers will be exclusively available for windows 10, with only critical security for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 through September 2024.
“The vast majority of our GeForce customers have migrated to Windows 10 OS,” reads a support note from Nvidia. “In order to ensure GeForce owners experience the best possible security, support, and functionality, Nvidia will now focus on Windows 10 operating system.”, they further added.
There are 1.3 billion active users of Windows 10 with Windows 7 as the most demanding Windows OS other than the latest. About 93 percent of Windows 10 is dominating the steam, leaving windows 7 just 2 percent. Microsoft is also expected to launch new windows which likely to be named window 11.
Microsoft also dropped support for its older Windows 7, 8 and extending limited support for 8.1 till January 2023.
As per The Verge, Nvidia’s last driver to officially support these old versions of Windows will be made available on August 31st, with an October 4th release being the first to only support Windows 10.
