With the growing controversies, TikTok is not finding a way to settle down. Tiktok is facing the worst scenario right now because it has been found that Tiktok was collecting unique identifiers from each device as per a wall street journal investigation on Tuesday and this is against Google Play Store’s Policy.
It is terrifying news that Tiktok was doing it for like 15 months which means they got a lot of data from different users from different parts of the world. This also leads to our data being compromised.
iOS’s App Store and the Google Play Store had banned the collection of MAC addresses as a matter of policy by 2015, but TikTok was still able to obtain the MAC address which really questions the integrity of Tiktok among its user
The Journal also found that the loophole which TikTok used to bypass the app store’s policy has been used by nearly 350 apps on Google Play Store and do you think that a loophole is enough to bypass the security of a tech giant like Google?
The big question here is ” how much data is already been sent to the Chinese government?” Many countries are already planning to ban TikTok because of the fact that no one wants their data to be collected by a Chinese App which is a strict violation of our privacy. Even now it seems rather unusual for Microsoft to buy TikTok. Does Microsoft know about this?
Now you all will be thinking that how can a MAC address be used to violate your privacy?
“Media Access Control” or MAC address is a unique number found in all internet-ready electronics including Mobile Phones which cannot be changed. This number can be used to push data and information to your device, in short, it’s like your one personal thing which is used to uniquely identify among a group of people.
TikTok stated that it had discontinued the practice. This is very disturbing because the company said
“The current version of Tiktok does not collect MAC address”
Tiktok spokesperson further added that
“TikTok is committed to protecting the privacy and safety of the TikTok community. Like our peers, we constantly update our app to keep up with evolving security challenges “
I don’t think TikTok is a saint anymore after all these allegations, the data which they collect from us can be used with AI tools to create relevant information for a particular field of study in focus, in short, your data involves many attributes like how much time you spent on your phone, what is your field of interest, etc.
So now it’s on you whether to allow someone to spy on you or uninstall TikTok!
