Samsung Tab S7 Plus VS iPad Pro 2020: which one would replace a laptop?

Samsung Tab S7 and iPad Pro
Last updated:

Samsung recently launched its 7th gen of S series Tablet on 5th August 2020 with features that make it an effective laptop replacement.

So when it comes to the tablet market Apple’s iPad Pro is a flagship device that could give a tough competition to Samsung’s S series tablets and recently in March 2020, Apple refreshed its iPad Pro lineup with new features like LiDAR scanner, a faster A12Z processor, etc.

Specification

Samsung’s Tab S7+ is powered by Snapdragon’s latest 865 plus processor which got a single-score of 936 and a multicore score of 2,846 according to a listing in GeekBench 5 whereas the iPad Pro has a single-core score of 1113 and a multicore score of 4606 which of course is twice as of Tab S7 plus

Tab S7+ has got a 6GB and an 8GB variant enough to fuel the multitasking needs while iPad Pro has got only a 6GB variant but iPad is no less when it comes to multitasking, it can handle different tasks without a lag.

Here iPad Pro is a clear winner.

Display

When it comes to displaying segment, Tab S7+ is the best mobile display in the market with its 12.4 inches 120Hz super AMOLED OLED panel with a resolution of 2800 x 1752 which is like the smoothest display I have ever seen with great black and when it comes to watching video In HDR Samsung has an upper hand in this segment. Apple’s iPad Pro is also at par with Tab S7 plus display with its 12.9 inches 120Hz Liquid Retina Display with an IPS panel with a resolution of 2732×2048, but still, Samsung’s display can’t be beaten.

Here Samsung is a clear winner.

Camera

I know the camera is not a segment that should be reviewed when it comes to Tablets, but it’s 2020 and the camera is now way better in tablets than its older generations.

Apple this year really brought some big changes in the camera with the new LiDAR Scanner. The new iPad Pro could enhance the AR by creating a 3D digital representation of the target but still, I would suggest it to be an “extra” feature that some users may not prefer to use.

The iPad along with the LiDAR scanner features a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a 10-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/2.4 aperture and a 125-degree field of view which is similar to the iPhone 11 camera setup but with a 120-degree FOV.

Tab S7 plus features a 5-megapixel wide lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens with f/2.0 aperture. Both support 4K recording but Apple has an upper hand with the support of a maximum of 4K 60 fps recording while Tab S7 plus only supports up to 30 fps.

Here iPad Pro is a clear winner.

Battery Life

The new iPad Pro features a 9720 mAh battery whereas the Tab S7 plus features a 10090 mAh battery.

The iPad Pro lasted around 10 hours while the latest Tab S7 Plus lasted for around 9 hours which is not a drastic difference and we should keep in mind that both have a different ecosystem, Tab S7 runs on Android 10 while iPad Pro is powered by ios 13.

Here iPad Pro is a clear winner.

Stylus

This is something I am excited to talk about, the Apple Pencil which costs around 150$ is the one which all designers and creators have been using since day one but Samsung’s Stylus is a game-changer with its air action features, 9ms response time, and a thicker design compared to Apple’s Pencil which makes it more comfortable to use

Here Samsung is a clear winner.

Keyboard

Samsung’s keyboard boasts a larger touchpad with multi-gesture support which is a slight improvement from its predecessor but it doesn’t feel really too good to type on especially for people who have large-sized hands and the viewing angle of the Tab attached with the keyboard is really limited whereas the magic keyboard introduced with the new iPad Pro lineup is I think the best Apple could make.

The keyboard features Scissor Switches with a 1mm response time which feels really satisfying to type on and finally the stylized floating hinge which allows different viewing angles with the keyboard attached.

Here iPad Pro is a clear winner.

Final Verdict

If you are planning to buy a tablet in 2020 I would suggest iPad Pro 2020 because it’s a great all-rounder yet Samsung’s Tab S7 plus is nothing to be kept aside the table because both are a great performer and at the end of the day it’s all depend on what you like and which ecosystem you like to work on.
